B-Balling

Trent loves to play him some basketball. He especially loves when he doesn't have to rotate out due to extra players. Its all about getting a good cardiovascular workout, right? In fact, I do recall Trent (now regretfully) saying something to this effect while traveling to his city league game last evening, "I hope that seventh player doesn't show up tonight, its perfect when there's only six of us."

Well, you guessed it, when Trent showed up for his game last night, there were only three others to play. Trent and his four man team had to go up against a strong-shooting team with plenty of subs. At the end of the first half they were still hanging with the mighty, well-rotated team, down by only four points, 32 to 28. At this point in the game one of Trent's teammate's roommates, who had come to observe the game, offered to fill in the empty spot. Now that there was 5 on 5, it was SO exciting to watch. It came down to the wire, but in the end Trent's team was able to pull off the victory, 57-55. I had so much fun cheering them on, jumping up and down for this oh so important game, ha.

And thats not all the good basketball news... My awesome Accounting 522 teacher has us fill out a grid before all the NBA final games. Its kinda complex, but basically everyone puts their initials in six of the 100 squares and if your name is in the box that corresponds with the correct last digit of the score at the end of each quarter for the game, then you win a prize. After Trent's game we came home and got caught up on the Lakers/Spurs game (I love TiVo!) and the score at the end of the first quarter was Lakers- 28, Spurs-23, and if you look at our grid...
I won!

"Free" Cold Stone's Ice Cream

Just like McDonald's promotion last week featuring their "free" "southern" chicken biscuit, this Cold Stone thing was a joke. You had to sign up for another one of those Citi credit cards. Ive done it before for pizza, and after driving across town for our "free" ice cream we weren't about to go home without doing it again. I'll just need a little reminder next month to cancel the card and have it taken off my credit report. But for now it means one gotta have it sized Oreo Overload for "free." Now that I have had 200% of my daily value of saturated fat, I feel much better. The 600 calories that I burned at the gym seem insignificant after sharing 1000 with Trent. We evidently ordered the wrong Signature Creation, it wasn't as good as I was expecting- any suggestions for next time?

It was another sunny weekend...

...which means nothing but trouble for the Savages.

Our story begins in Cottonwood heights, where we helped my dear cousin Sally move to the next apartment over. Some how we managed to get all her furniture into the new apartment in one piece (for the most part I suppose). I wish I would have taken a picture of her new place, it was just perfect with all her PB furniture set up. Trent rushed to his parent's house afterwards to catch the Jazz lose game six to the Lakers. I stuck around at Sally's and helped sort out all her cute decorations while Laurel and her crafty eye decided where to put what. Sally then took me to Trent's parent's and got a tour of their beautiful new home.

The next morning we couldn't resist the sun so we headed up to the mountains for an encore to our hike that took place three weeks prior. This time we came slightly more equipped with sledding materials. A U shaped inner tube and smaller circular tube was our "perfect" vehicle to get down the mountain.

The smaller tube proved to be not so perfect after all. (That laugh makes me think Amanda was doing the recording- am I right?)

The "shoot" from the commentator was in reference to Trent going over a ledge. He landed comfortably on a bush that covered a not so comfortable rock. Trent survived without a scrape. Although the videos are all of Trent, don't be fooled-- I participated too, Trent just didn't know how to work the dang camera. Its a shame it wasn't working when I ate it on the icy snow. And just for proof, I now have beautiful scrapes up and down my arms and legs to show for.

I woke up Sunday morning sore from the hike/fall but luckily got to take a long nap after church and lounge around the rest of the day finishing up New Moon. They never let me down... as much as I want to start Eclipse I can't until next term. I am just too busy to be tied down with Edward and Bella twice in one term.

Trent, the Motivational Speaker

While gathering dental recommendation letters, Trent approached his old high school basketball coach to see if he would be so kind as to write a letter about Trent, to help him get into dental school. After talking with his old coach, he asked Trent to give a speech to the high school the following Thursday. So today, Trent went up and gave a 30 minute presentation about hard work and dedication to the entire high school! One of the differences between me and Trent is 1) my high school would never want me to come back and talk to them- after all I wasn't on their state championship basketball team and 2) I would be crazy nervous if by some odd reason I had to. Trent jotted down a few notes the day before he gave the speech and evidently (according to those in attendance) did a great job.

Ebay Pulls Through

I was so sad when I took my most prized swimsuit out of my summer clothes bin and found that portions of the material are wearing thin. My best guess is that chlorine ate though it because someone didn't rinse it after swimming in it (for two years). Lets just say this was a hard lesson to learn. Why did it have to take place with my favorite suit? Just to get a visual image of how cute it is, here ya go.

My first thought was that I would have someone recreate the swim suit since I know there are plenty of people here in Utah who are fully capable of doing so. And then I could get it made in black, the only downside is that it would be so expensive. After further execution of this idea, I found that these master seamstresses that I've heard of are hard to find.

My second idea, was ebay! The good news is that I was able to locate my exact swimsuit listed on ebay at least 5 times, plus I found similar styles made by the same designer that come in pink, brown, and black! All of which were about 20 dollars. I found a black one in my size and have been impatiently awaiting its arrival since last week. I didn't want to publicly praise ebay until I was assured that it arrived with tags and that it fit. My new favorite suit arrived today and I love it! So, an additional lesson is learned: if you have a favorite swim suit, there is a good chance you can find its replica a few years later on ebay for way cheap!

Edamame Beans

pronounced ed·a·mommy beans
Ever heard of these?? Yummy soy bean snack. Amanda introduced them to me and Jill introduced them to her. Trent doesn't care for them but I of course love them. I just think they are so fun to pop out of their shells and delve into my mouth. They are very filling and taste deliciously healthy. Plus, you get 12 individually wrapped snacks (really its more like 12 meals with all the nutrients contained) at Costco for only 6 bucks. Thats right- 50 cent meals. That is almost as cheap as a Ramen Noodle meal, except you only suffer a third of the calories, a fifth of the fat and a fourth of the carbs of a Ramen Noodle packet. And then you get a third more protein and a gazillion more vitamins.
Now that I have you all sold, let me show you something that really turned me off from the so called Edamame Bean.... this is what almost entered my mouth when I popped the bean out of its shell. Some sort of red centipede/worm was flash-frozen, then microwaved inside of the green casing, which was inside of the same container that I ate from. I wanted to vomit. I had to say goodbye to the remainder of that container, and I think it might take me a week or two to crave another one of these 50 cent meals. Hopefully this doesn't discourage you from at least trying them, cause if you like boiled peanuts, there is a good chance you will like these- once microwaved and lightly salted.

!Feliz Cinco De Mayo!

I have no clue what the holiday is all about, but I am up for an excuse to have some good Mexican food. Trent and I celebrated the special holiday with grilled chicken fajitas and chips/dip. The fajitas recipe is our absolute favorite in the whole cook book. Just because I'm feeling generous (Cinco De Mayo brings out the best in us) I am going to share:

3 chicken breasts
1 can diced tomatoes
2 tsp chili powder
1 tsp dried oregeno
1 Tbsp ground cumin
1 Tbsp italian spice
2 Tbsp cilantro
1 red bell pepper, sliced into strips
1 yellow bell pepper, sliced into strips
1 small red onion, cut into narrow rings
-----------------------------------------
10 6 inch wheat tortillas
1 cup sour cream
1 avocado, cubed
1 cup cheese, shredded

cut chicken into strips and grill
put chicken and seasonings in bowl, mix, and marinate 30 minutes, up to 2 hours
dump chicken and seasoning mixture into frying pan
cook until hot
heat tortillas
spoon mixture on tortillas, and top with avocado, cheese, and sour cream

Enjoy! Feliz Cinco De Mayo!

Popcorn or Ice Cream?

I am sure the spoon gave it away. Perhaps you thought it was scrambled eggs. Nope, Ice cream (helado). Trent and I debated and debated whether or not to go running tonight but for some odd reason we ended up at Sub Zero, a fun ice cream shop instead. They take milk and turn it into ice cream in front of you using liquid nitrogen. If you get double the liquid nitrogen it turns it into Dip n Dots type of ice cream like the above picture. My tongue is still slightly sore because it was so cold. Before they add the liquid nitrogen they add flavors and mix ins. I got cake batter flavor with peanut butter cups and Trent got chocolate with pecans. It was fun- Trent liked it because he is a chemist and understands how the process works. I liked it because I am an accountant and we had a coupon, buy one get one free.

Dress Shopping

This afternoon I went for a quick stroll around town with my friend looking for a wedding dress for her to wear this July as well as the bridesmaid dresses for us to wear. No success with the wedding dress (yet) but we did find this pretty cool one that had wings. It was so weird. It was like a dress and then had two large pieces of material added to the sides which could be outstretched to look like flapping wings. Or they could be used to completely cover her body:We had a fun time just making fun of all the silly dresses and trying to figure out how they work. We do not recommend Walker's Eternity Wedding Dresses (we should have known by the name) or The Bridal Center for serious shoppers.
Success was found with the bridesmaid dress. Just as a preface, her colors are light blue and dark brown and I think she wants it to be semi casual since it is a summer wedding. I think it is super cute, nice and airy, and flexible with decor since the dress entails several shades of blue:
Now the question is: what type/color of shoes should we wear?

Still taking pictures with the camera phone

In case you didn't pick up on Amanda's previous comments, she accidentally took off with my SD card when she was in Utah a couple weeks back. Its okay though, now I am forced to use my phone's camera which happens to always be handy. So... when there was about two minutes left in Trent's most recent B-ball game I remembered I wanted to get a picture of him. Of course the camera phone was handy so I took one. Too bad they were ahead by so much that at this point in the game they weren't shooting, just passing the ball around trying to run down the clock. However, I did manage to get this semi decent shot of him with the ball. I thought it was cool because everything except Trent (#14) is blurry.
